Alleged Beer Thief to Fairfield PD: 'You Got Me'

A round-up of weekend arrests and incidents.

A Bridgeport man was arrested and charged with larceny in the sixth degree on Saturday, Dec. 10 after he reportedly shoplifted four 12 packs of Heineken beers ($81) from the on Kings Highway, but then abandoned them in the parking lot, police said.

Tremaine Wilson, 41, walked past all points of sale and out the door with a cart full of beer, according to police. Stop & Shop’s loss prevention unit followed him and watched him abandon the cart and drive off in a white Toyota Camry, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

Police caught up with Wilson at , where he told them he had just come from Stamford. After some questioning, Wilson admitted to walking out of the door with the beers, Lussier said.

“You got me. I just left Stop & Shop -- but I didn’t steal anything,” Wilson told police, according to Lussier.

A search on Wilson’s name revealed an extensive history of run-ins with the law, Lussier said.

He was released on a $500 bond and issued a court date for today.

A motor vehicle stop conducted on Saturday, Dec. 10 lead to the arrest of a Glastonbury man who was reportedly in possession of marijuana and marijuana packaging materials police said.

Robert Doyle, 19, was driving a Nissan with a flat tire on Knapps Highway when police performed the motor vehicle stop, Lussier said.

Doyle told police he didn’t know how the tire became flat, according to the police report. Further questioning lead to Doyle admitting there was marijuana in the center console of the vehicle, Lussier said. The responding officer located a small bag in the console, the content of which tested positive for marijuana, and 26 small empty plastic bags, Lussier said.

Doyle was transported to headquarters and charged with illegal manufacturing, distribution, and sale of marijuana and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, according to the report.

He was released on a $200 bond and issued a Dec. 19 court date.

A Fairfield man was arrested Sunday, Dec. 11 and charged with several motor vehicle charges after he allegedly tried to elude a motor vehicle stop being conducted by police, Lussier said.

Demetrius Pettway, 41, of Prince Street, told police he knew he would be found out for driving an unregistered vehicle without insurance. When he saw the officer following him with the lights on and the air horn sounding, Pettway put a finger up to symbol “hold on,” but then made a U-turn, accelerated toward the officer, and attempted to drive off, Lussier said.

A second officer responded and helped the first stop Pettway, Lussier said. Pettway was charged for driving without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle, disobeying an officer’s signal, and interfering with a police office, according to the report. There was also an active warrant for third-degree larceny out of West Haven for Pettway.

Pettway was turned over to West Haven and released on a written promise to appear in court on Dec. 20 for all charges, Lussier said.

Police arrested a Fairfield man on Saturday, Dec. 10 on a warrant for a car accident on Wilson Street that occurred on Oct. 19, Lussier said.

Christopher Smith of Merritt Street was charged with driving under the influence. The original accident report was unavailable at the time of this repor.

Smith was released on a $100 bond and issued a Dec. 16 court date, police said.

Two were arrested on Saturday, Dec.10 for reportedly lying to a police officer conducting a motor vehicle stop, police said.

Sarah Viglione, 24, of Monroe, and Shane Zahorsky, 27, who told police he was homeless, were both charged with interfering with an officer after they both lied about Zahorsky’s identity, Lussier said. Zahorsky was further served for a warrant out of Bridgeport.

Police stopped the vehicle Zahorsky and Viglione were traveling in because its front plate was missing, according to the report. When police questioned the occupants, Zahorsky said he did not know the vehicle was also unregistered and said it belonged to Viglione, Lussier said. Zahorsky, who was driving, could not produce a license. He also told police his name was Brett. Viglione told police the same and also gave police a false date of birth for Zahorsky, according to Lussier.

Police asked for other forms of I.D., and Zahorsky produced a AAA card with the name “Shane Zahorsky” on it, Lussier said. When police did a search on that name, a photo of the vehicle’s operator showed up from the Department of Corrections database. It also showed that Shane Zahorsky’s license was suspended, Lussier said.

Zahorsky was released on a $500 bond; Viglione on a promise to appear in court. Both were issued Dec. 20 court dates.

A Fairfield woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive right after she was involved in a car accident early on Saturday, Dec. 10, police said.

Nadia Uvarova of Stratfield Road told police she thought she had seen something in the road while driving on Kings Highway near Vermont Avenue and swerved to avoid it, Lussier said. She was unaware of the significant damage to her front bumper and one of her wheel wells, Lussier added.

Police came upon Uravrova after they saw what they deemed the scene of an accident -- dirt sprayed across the road and a car parked on the shoulder with its hazards on, according to the report. That car belonged to a friend of Uvarova, whol told police Uvarova had been in an accident and was still driving.

Police observed Uvarova’s vehicle traveling slowly ahead of them and driving into the right shoulder, Lussier said.

She admitted to having a few drinks and failed three field sobriety tests, police said. Uvarova was released on a $100 bond to a friend and issued a Dec. 19 court date.

A Warde Terrace resident woke up on Saturday, Dec. 10 to her mailbox smashed, police said.

It appeared the vandal used pumpkins to smash the mailbox -- there were two smashed pumpkins on the resident’s lawn, according to the report.

It was reported on Saturday afternoon that a 73-year-old Bridgeport woman was passed out drunk on the northbound platform of the station, police said.

A state trooper discovered her and reported to Fairfield police. The woman said she was coming from , according to the report. She was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
