Cops: Man Driving, Talking on Cell Allegedly Caused Car Accident

A Fairfield man faces multiple charges after he allegedly caused a car accident on Kings Highway Saturday night, police said.

Mohamed Moussa, 23, was reportedly talking on his cell phone while driving when he went through a red light and cut in front of another car, causing the second car to strike the rear of Moussa's vehicle, according to the report.  

Moussa then drove off, according to police. Two witnesses confirmed the accident.

Police found a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the accident at a Pierce Street home. There was damage to the rear bumper of the car that was consistent with the description of the accident, police said.

Police interviewed Moussa, who in his Pierce Street home, about the accident. He reportedly told police that he had gotten out of the car after the accident to check if there was damage. Moussa told police that he did not see damage and returned home.

Moussa was detained and charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility, disregarding a red light, and distracted driving, according to the report. He was released after posting a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 22.
