Cops: Naked Man Sent to Hospital After Running by Daycare Center

Cops Say Officers Sent to Man's House on a Frequent Basis

A 50-year-old man was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport after he ran, naked from the waist down, by a daycare center on Greenfield Street in Fairfield this morning, police said.

The man, identified by police as Frank Sopek, of Old Stratfield Road, was intoxicated and was brought by American Medical Response to the hospital after the 7:18 a.m. incident, police said.

An employee at Teddy Bear Corner called police after she saw a man later identified as Sopek run by the daycare center wearing nothing but a shirt. Officers stopped Sopek by the corner of Greenfield Street and Old Stratfield Road, police said.

Migdalia Rivere, an assistant director at Teddy Bear Corner, said none of the kids saw anything. "The windows are high up so the kids can't see anything," she said.

Rivere said she didn't look out the window, but other staff members did and reported that Sopek wasn't wearing a long shirt and it was apparent he wasn't wearing anything from the waist down. "I personally didn't really care to see it," Rivere said.

Sopek was not immediately charged in the incident but could face a charge of public indecency. Sopek lives with his brother and mother in a house two blocks north of the daycare center, police said.

Police said officers have responded to the house 137 times since 2001 on medical, alcohol-related and other calls and that Sopek is a frequent drinker.
