Cops Probe Accident Involving Bus with Special Needs Students

No major injuries were reported in connection to the accident, which occurred Wednesday morning on Kings Highway East.

Fairfield police are investigating a three-vehicle accident involving a bus carrying students with special needs that occurred Wednesday morning on Kings Highway East.

According to the report, a woman was attempting to turn left onto Kings Highway East from Berwick Avenue and pulled out onto Kings Highway East in front of a small bus. The bus, occupied by four children with special needs and the driver, hit the vehicle as it was turning left, police said. The first vehicle then crossed into the westbound lane on Kings Highway East and hit a third vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle told police she did not see the bus coming, according to the report. The bus driver told police there was no way to avoid hitting the car as it pulled out of Berwick Avenue, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.
