Fairfield Doctor Wins 2012 Physician of the Year Award

Physicians are selected to receive the award based on their dedication to the improvement of the quality of life and the advancement of health care within the greater Bridgeport community, according to a press release.

Dr. Bruce McDonald of , who announced his retirement earlier this year as chief medical officer at Bridgeport Hospital, has been named by the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association as the recipient of its 2012 Physician of the Year Award.

Physicians are selected to receive the award based on their dedication to the improvement of the quality of life and the advancement of health care within the greater Bridgeport community, according to a press release. McDonald received the award during the GBMA's recent annual meeting.

McDonald, a pediatric nephrologist, has worked for the last 26 years as senior vice president, medical affairs and chief medical officer at Bridgeport Hospital. Prior to that he served as chairman of pediatrics from 1980 to 1986.

Dr. McDonald's wife, Beth, during the past 20 years has reportedly served as a member of the Bridgeport Hospital Auxiliary, serving a two-year term as vice president and participating in a number of fundraising activities.
