The initial report to police was from an employer who misplaced a business credit card and feared an employee was using it to make fraudulent withdrawals. Investigators interviewed Kernan as a suspect and also received still images from banks where fraudulent withdrawals were made.

Five fraudulent withdrawals totaling $1,022 were made with the misplaced card, police said.
