Fairfield Police Remind Residents of Water Safety

A near-drowning incident on Monday spurred the department to relay the message of safety.

are warning residents and visitors to the Cascades at to swim only in designated swimming areas after a near-drowning incident occurred on Monday, according to a press release issued by the department.

A 23-year-old Bridgeport woman reportedly almost drowned in the north end of the lake. She told police she had no recollection of being pulled out of the water after she stepped off an underwater ledge and went under, according to the release.

The Cascades of Lake Mohegan is a non-designated swimming area. Police urge swimmers to stay where lifeguards are stationed.

“Fairfield Police remain committed to sending water safety messages this summer and their concern extends to any body of water throughout the town,” officials stated in the release. “With the knowledge that last year the town had two drowning incidents and several near-drowning and more recently a rescue on Harbor Road Southport, we are thankful that this incident was resolved safely.”
