Fairfield Police Respond to Two Serious Car Accidents

The accidents occurred late Saturday night.

The Fairfield Fire Department responded to two serious car accidents Saturday night, one of which left a vehicle occupant in critical condition.

According to a press release sent by the department, vehicle occupants were trapped in a car following an accident on the Merritt Parkway between exits 42 and 44 in the northbound lane. Officials arrived on scene at 11:17 p.m. Farifield's Engine 5, Ladder 2 and Car 3 arrived on scene and were "advised that the vehicle was off the road and in the woods." 

Fire personnel "found two people trapped in a car and initiated care and stabilization operations," the release says.

Shortly thereafter, a second accident on Grasmere Avenue, near Roanoke Avenue occurred, resulting in people being trapped in the vehicle after it rolled over. Fairfield's Engine 2 and Ladder 1 responded, and Car 3 was divrted from the Merritt accident to respond. 

According to a press release, that was a three-car accident, with an SUV rolled over in the street and a "strong odor of gasoline."

"Two other damaged vehicles were also found in the roadway with significant damage but were determined to have been parked and unoccupied at the time of the accident," the release says. "A protective hose line and fire extinguishers were deployed to prevent ignition of gasoline fumes."

According to the release, fire department personnel provided medical care to two of the occupants of the rolled over vehicle while making sure the gasoline leaks were controlled.

A victim of that crash was in "critical condition and require immediate transport to Bridgeport Hospital," the release said, while a second victim of the rollover accident refused medical treatment.

The Westport Fire Department assisted in both incidents.
