Fairfield Prep Hockey Stunned By ND-West Haven, 2-0

The loss snapped the top-ranked Jesuits' 10-game winning streak.

The top-ranked Fairfield Prep hockey team was stunned by Notre Dame of West Haven 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Rink.

The loss snapped the Jesuits' 10-game winning streak and dropped them to 14-3.

Fairfield Prep also was shut out for the first time this season and suffered its first loss to a state opponent. Its previous two defeats came in December in the Mount St. Charles tournament in Rhode Island.

Notre Dame goaltender Luc Amatruda stymied Fairfield Prep with 30 saves.  Riley Wikman made 31 saves for the Jesuits, including a stop on Anthony Astorino's penalty shot with just over a minute remaining in the game.

Greg Zullo opened the scoring for Notre Dame in the first period and Colby Cretella provided insurance for the Green Knights with a power-play goal in the second period.

Notre Dame, which has moved up to No. 2 in the New Haven Register state media poll, figures to take over the top spot from the Jesuits. The Green Knights improved to 13-3-1, killing off three Fairfield Prep power plays.

Fairfield Prep has three games remaining in the regular season, including Wednesday's contest against Catholic Memorial (Mass.) at the Wonderland of Ice.

The Jesuits visit rival Hamden next Saturday, then conclude the regular season at East Haven on Feb. 28.
