Michael Wright recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds as upset previously unbeaten Fairfield Prep 76-68 in overtime Wednesday night in the Jesuits' holiday classic at Alumni Hall.

In the earlier game, Notre Dame of Fairfield overcame a slow start to post a 58-49 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe.

Notre Dame (4-1) and Warde will clash for the title on Friday at 8 p.m.with the winner earning its first classic championship. Prep and Ludlowe will clash in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

Neither Notre Dame nor Warde has won the tournament since it was reinstated in 2004.

The Mustangs (2-2) overcame another spectacular effort from Fairfield Prep's Terry Tarpey, who poured in 32 points and 10 boards. 

Sam Martens scored 18 points and  Matt McTague added 13 points for the Mustangs, who outscored the Jesuits 13-5 in the overtime.

Notre Dame used a 14-2 run in the third quarter to pull away from a 24-24 tie at halftime. The Lancers lost to Fairfield Prep (4-1) in last year's final.

Arkel Miles and Dan Upchurch each scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack for Notre Dame. They were two of three players in double figures for the Lancers as C.J. Davidson added 11.

Ludlowe (1-3) also had three players in double figures, led by Connor Peterson with 15. Justin Beradino added 14 and Mark Cerulli chipped with 13.

The Fairfield Prep hockey team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a 5-0 win over Springfield Cathedral (Mass.) in the Mount St. Charles tournament in Rhode Island.

A.J. Unker had a hand in all the scoring for the Jesuits (4-1) with two goals and three assists.

David White also scored twice and Ken Kochiss once for Fairfield Prep, which closes tourament play on Thursday at 2 p.m. against St. Joseph of Buffalo, N.Y.

Jesuits goalkeeper Riley Whitman stopped 21 shots Wednesday to record the shutout.

The Fairfield Warde girls basketball team faces Brookfield on Thursday in the championship game of the annual Todd Burger tournamentTipoff is at 7 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe.

The tournament is named in honor of the former Fairfield Citizen sports editor who lost his battle with cancer in 2007.

The Todd Burger tournament is important for veteran Warde coach Dave Danko who developed a close friendship with Burger, who served as the Citizen's sports editor for 14 years. 

The Mustangs won the tournament for the third time last season with a 48-22 victory over Fairfield Ludlowe.  They returned to the final with a 57-34 victory over McMahon on Tuesday.

Ludlowe will play in the consolation game against the Senators after falling to Brookfield 40-36 on Tuesday.
