Fairfield Woman Launches 'Errand Hopper' Service

Jennifer Callanan, a former corporate event and meeting planner, hopes to use her background to help busy folks in Fairfield County.

Jennifer Callanan knows what it's like to be busy -- she worked as a corporate event and meeting planner for 15 years.

"Whatever the staff needs, you're the one who takes care of it," Callanan, a longtime Fairfield resident, explained.

That's why she decided to roll out a personal assistant and concierge service in Fairfield. "Errand Hopper" launched in December 2012.

Callanan had researched how she could use her background outside of the corporate world and closer to home -- and so Errand Hopper came to be.

"This is a very popular business to launch all over the country," she said. She was surprised there aren't more like it in Fairfield County.

Callanan told Patch that the people most in need of Errand Hopper's work are small business owners who work from home or have a very small staff, busy professionals, people who travel a lot, and new moms.

Those short on time can hire Callanan for a multitude of tasks, including errands like grocery and personal shopping; business services like in-office assistance, event management, and lunch pickup/delivery; in-home services; moving and relocation assistance; and pet care.  (For a complete list of services, click here.)

"Everybody's busy, we're all busy," she said. "So many people spend their precious free time doing tasks and errands when they would rather be enjoying themselves with friends and family."

Callanan's background in the corporate world has primed her to help with not just everyday errands, but office work, too. Small business owners with a limited staff can use Errand Hopper just for the hours the service is needed, rather than committing to a part-time or full-time employee.

At this time, Errand Hopper can service most of Fairfield County, especially the towns closest to Fairfield. As the business grows, Callanan hopes to enhance the Errand Hopper team with more professionals that share a background similar to hers, as well as students from Fairfield and Sacred Heart universities.

She also hopes Errand Hopper can be of use to the employees of mid-size to larger companies.

"So many people could benefit from it," she said.

For now, Callanan hopes that busy residents will give Errand Hopper a try.

"I have a can-do attitude -- I'm happy to do whatever people need," she said. "I know what it's like to be so busy, and you need people you can trust.

I want to help people out, people who are too busy, have too much on their plate," she added.
