Homes Collapse into Water along Fairfield Beach Road

Police ask residents to stay off the roads.

Five homes have structural damage along the west end of Fairfield Beach Road, and two have collapsed into the water, according to the Fairfield Police Department.

The police department added that the mandatory evacuation for residents on that road, along with homes south of Quincy Street, remain in place.

"We have serious and hazardous issues all over the town," said Suzanne Lussier, a sergeant with the department. "We have live wires down in the water and they're intermingled with trees. But before we do the cleanup we have to rescue people, because some people did not listen."

Fairfield police are also grappling with a flood on Harbor Road, between Westway Road and Main Street.

"We are asking people who are in homes around there to stay home," Lussier said. "Travel is hazardous."
