Late Night Accident Leads to Arrests

Other recent Fairfield police news includes a DUI, an attempted break-in, disputes and a possible identity theft.


Two men were arrested in the early morning hours on June 9 following a reported motor vehicle accident in the parking lot across from the Sky Hookah Lounge on Kings Highway.

Arrested on charges of criminal impersonation, second-degree forgery and interfering with an officer was Eduardo G. Sanchez, 20, of Bridgeport. Harry Rosado, 23, of Stratford, was charged with interfering with an officer.

Police said the arrests were made after an officer observed a vehicle backing out of a parking space and heard a noise that sounded like an accident. The officer responded and the operator, Sanchez, reportedly said he hit a concrete wall while backing out of a tight space.

When asked to present identification, Sanchez allegedly presented Rosado's license, which police said was suspended.

Rosado, a passenger in the vehicle, had his bond set at $500 and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 19. Sanchez' bond was set at $1,000.

DUI on the Post Road

A Massachussetts woman was arrested for DUI on June 9 after police reportedly observed her swerving down the Post Road and, at times, driving 20 miles under the posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour.

The woman, who police identified as Alexandra Thompson, 21, Glauchester, allegedly drifted over the double yellow line, almost entirely into the other side of the road, and even came to a complete stop where there was no signaled intersection -- in the area of King's Lane -- police said.

When pulled over, she reportedly said she was on her way home to Massachussetts from New York City and was lost. She allegedly didn't know what town or state she was in, and failed a field sobriety test twice, police said.

Thompson was charged with DUI and failure to drive right. She declined to take a breathalyzer at police headquarters, according to the report.

She was held on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on June 18.

Dispute Leads to Disorderly Conduct Charge

A 40-year-old Fairfield woman and her 16-year-old daughter were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct on June 8th.

Police said the arrest came about following a complaint the daughter made to a school counselor at Fairfield Warde High School. The student and the mother reportedly got in a fight before school, police said.

The mother, Maribel Smith of Bennett Street, and the daughter were due in court on June 11.

Fight Near Fairfield Beach

Amy Ruggiero, 40, of Figlar Avenue, was arrested at 8:38 p.m. on June 8 on a charge of breach of peace.

Police said Ruggiero allegedly pushed another woman in the chest during an altercation near 740 Fairfield Beach Road. The victim reportedly almost fell to the ground and complained of pain her left arm, but declined medical treatment.

The dispute reportedly erupted when Ruggerio saw the woman with her ex-husband. She was released on a written promise to appear in court on June 21.

Reported Break-in Attempt

A Melville Avenue resident was awoke June 8 by the sound of what he says was an attempted break-in.

The man reportedly saw a skinny Hispanic male in his 20s with a brown mohawk wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans leaving his yard in a hurry on a blue bike. A screen window had been removed from a window and placed in nearby hedges, police said.

Nothing was taken during the incident, which took place at about 10 a.m. and was reported at 5:46 p.m.

Metro Center Site of Stolen Bike

A blue mountain bike with silver shocks valued at $100 was reportedly stolen from the bike rack on the platform of the Metro Center sometime between 3 p.m. on June 9 and 6 a.m. on June 10.

Police said a cut bike cable, worth $20, was found in the area where the bike was left on the southbound side.

Possible Identity Theft Investigated

Police are investigating a report made by a Fairfield woman on June 9 in which she claims that someone stole her identity.

The Southfield Road resident reported that she recieved a call from a bill collection company related to a Verizon account with more than $1,200 due -- even though she does not have an account with Verizon. The address on the account was out of Georgia, police said.

The case is under investigation.

Nearly Hit by a Car

A pedestrian walking westbound on the Old Post Road at 4:15 a.m. on June 8 reportedly had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck by a vehicle.

Police said the woman reported that a gray sedan with hits front bumper falling off suddenly swerved off the road and onto the sidewalk. A search of the area yielded on results for the vehicle, police said.

Just Needed a Place to Rest

A New York man surveying land on Stillson Road was reportedly looking for a place to rest on June 9 when he rang a resident's doorbell and asked to sit on their porch.

The resident declined, police said, so the man set up a lawn chair on the front lawn under a tree. That's when the resident called police, at about 10:30 a.m.

The man was advised to move up the street, off of private property.
