A Bridgeport man was charged sixth-degree larceny Thursday after he allegedly attempted to shoplift 23 cans of Red Bull from the Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff, police said.

Mark Goncalves, 35, was also charged with first-degree criminal trespass because he had been previously warned not to return to the store, according to the report.

Goncalves reportedly ran out of the supermarket with the Red Bull stowed underneath his jacket after employees spotted him, department spokesperson Sgt. Sue Lussier said.

Officers detained Goncalves and brought him to police headquarters, where he was processed and held in lieu of a $500 bond. He was scheduled to have appeared in court on Friday.
