Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Wife

Officers Arrested Jermaine Johnson at the Fairfield Home of His Wife and Recovered a Loaded Handgun

A man accused of threatening to kill his wife and lying in wait for her in her apartment on Carthage Street in Fairfield was arrested Monday after officers found him with a loaded handgun in the apartment, police said.

Police said Jermaine Johnson, 25, had threatened to kill his wife in the early morning hours on May 31, had threatened her with a knife in Bridgeport and had  locked her out of her Carthage Street apartment Sunday night.

On Monday afternoon, Johnson called his wife and told her if she wanted to get into her apartment, she had better come home right away, police said.

Officers went to the Carthage Street home after receiving a phone call from the victim and arrested Johnson on charges of first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree threatening, criminal possession of a firearm, negligent storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct and tampering with a witness. He was held in lieu of $500,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court, police said.

Police said a loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun was found in Johnson's former apartment.

Police said charges against Johnson for the Bridgeport threat are pending.

Police said Johnson has prior misdemeanor and felony convictions in Connecticut, Georgia and New York, and was on probation and not allowed to have a gun.

An officer responding to Monday's incident was involved in an accident by Kings Highway East and New England Avenue in Fairfield. No one was injured in the accident, police said.
