Man Charged with Strangling Fiancé Over Texts

A Kensington, Conn. man faces several domestic violence charges after he allegedly strangled his fiancé over text messages, police said.

Robert Perretta, 45, was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful restraint, and disorderly conduct after an alleged altercation that took place early Sunday at his fiancé's home on School Street in Fairfield.

According to the police report, the couple had been at a going away party and told police they both had a few drinks. When they returned to the complainant's home, Perretta reportedly questioned his fiancé about who she was texting and then began to physically struggle with her, police said.

The complainant told police Perretta started to choke her and punch her in the head and then he stopped assaulting her, according to the report. She reported the incident to headquarters on Sunday afternoon, too shaken up to call police right after it happened, department spokesperson Lt. James Perez said.

The woman had visible injuries to her face and neck. Police talked to Perretta, who did not deny the accusations against him, Perez said.

Perretta was released after posting  $5,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared in court on Monday.

A Bridgeport woman was arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to shoplift $454 worth of merchandise from , police said.

Andrea Tucker, 30, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with police. According to the report, an off-duty officer alerted to the shoplifting by Kohl's employees tried to retrain Tucker, who resisted and pushed the officer.

The off-duty officer managed to restrain Tucker until police arrived and apprehended her. She was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 21.

A Fairfield resident reported to police Monday that wallet was stolen and several charges were applied to his credit cards.

According to the report, the complainant left his wallet at Subway in Southport on Sunday and then went to the beach. He realized the wallet was missing and returned to Subway, but employees said they did not see it.

Later, credit card companies alerted the resident that the suspect attempted to apply a $6,623 charge to three of his credit cards, all for the same jewelry purpose. Another charge was made at the Domino's on Main Street in Bridgeport.

The jewelry store provided police with information about the suspect with the shipping information that was used to make the purchase.

This is under investigation.

Three bicycles were reported stolen Monday from an Old Post Road resident's garage, police said.

According to the report, the complainant said her son's friend borrowed a bike and returned it to the garage Sunday night and may have left the garage unlocked. The resident found her daughter's bike on Robson Place Monday morning and discovered two other bikes were missing.

The missing bikes totaled $500 in value. This is under investigation.
