Walsh Steps Down as Selectman Over Conflict of Interest

Walsh announced his resignation on Thursday after the Town Plan and Zoning Commission voiced concern over him representing private clients before them, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

 

Effective immediately Thursday, James Walsh resigned from the after the Town Plan and Zoning Commission voiced concern over him representing private clients before them, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The issue was raised by Commissioner Rich Jacobs when Walsh was appointed as lawyer for John Karageorge, the owner of the Post Road building that once held Las Vetas Lounge. Karageorge is looking to add a second story to the building.

According to statue 8-11, Walsh is only allowed to appear before both the TPZ and ZBA is when he's representing the town. In a statement sent to the Citizen, Walsh wrote that he would have to resign immediately "though reluctantly, for the sake of my family, my clients and my livelihood."
