Woman Charged With Public Urination at Kids' Car Wash

Also Charged With DUI in Incident Outside McKinley School

A Fairfield woman was arrested Saturday after she got out of her car at a car wash run by elementary school kids at McKinley School and urinated in front of them, police said.

"She did this in view of numerous children," said Police Sgt. Sue Lussier, a department spokesman.

Police said Amy Ficke, 43, of Villa Avenue, was intoxicated and that she was also charged with driving under the influence after officers found her in her car in McKinley School's parking lot and she failed field sobriety tests.

Police responded to a tip that a woman was intoxicated in the parking lot after Ficke urinated about 15 yards from children and got back into her car. One of the attendees at the car wash walked up to the car, smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Ficke and told police that Ficke appeared to be "somewhat unconscious or passed out," police said, adding that the department received several complaints about the 12:18 p.m. incident.

Lussier said a driving under the influence arrest only requires that the suspect be in the driver's seat of a car with the keys in the ignition.

Ficke was given an infraction for creating a public disturbance and was charged with driving under the influence. She was held in lieu of $250 bond and was scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on May 24, police said.
