On Tuesday, May 22, Fairfield Republicans unanimously endorsed Chris DeSanctis as the GOP’s candidate for State Representative in the 133rd District.
“I am honored to have received unanimous support to run for State Representative. There are many important issues that need reform,” DeSanctis said, “but at this moment, none is as critical as lowering our high cost of living, controlling unnecessary state spending and creating employment opportunities in Connecticut. This is why I’m running. Many people are working more than one job – if they have one – and they still cannot save for the future.”
“Connecticut citizens work longer to cover their tax burden for the entire year than residents of any other state nationally,” he added. “The majority party in Hartford, which has controlled our state legislature for decades, has not led the way to change this unwanted distinction – in fact they created it. As State Representative, I will work hard to bring common sense back to Hartford by advancing the idea that government – just like individuals – should spend no more than it makes.”
DeSanctis appointed the following individuals to his campaign team: Peter Ambrose, Campaign Co-Chairman and RTM member, District 2; Stanley “Bud” Morten, Campaign Co-Chairman and Connecticut Republican Party State Central Committee Member; Joe DeMartino, Treasurer and RTM member, District 4; Joe Palmer, RTM Deputy Minority Leader, District 9; Sue Dow, former Fairfield Board of Education representative; Dana Kery, RTM member, District 8; Kathryn L. Braun, RTM member, District 8; Rich Santalesa, former RTM member; and Erin Harrison French, former RTM member and campaign press secretary.
DeSanctis’ background spans education, non-profit, and public service sectors. He works as an Adjunct Professor at Sacred Heart University’s Department of Government and Politics and Norwalk Community College’s Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, and as a Headmaster of a private school. At SHU, he was honored with a Teaching and Service Award presented by Dr. Gary Rose, the Department Chairman. As a former public and private school teacher, DeSanctis has a strong appreciation for the field of education.
DeSanctis’ public service experience extends back to the late 1990s when he served as a Policy and Communications Aide to the former Mayor of Jersey City, N.J. While serving in this position, DeSanctis played a key leadership role in property tax, transportation, and education reform initiatives for the city of 250,000 people.
In 2006, DeSanctis was appointed by Gov. Jodi Rell to the Metro North-New Haven Rail Council and also served on Connecticut’s Property Tax Cap Commission. Commenting on Chris’ appointment, Gov. Rell stated: “It is important that we have the best and brightest serving on all our state boards and councils. Chris has a passion and dedication for bettering his community.” DeSanctis also served on Fairfield’s Representative Town Meeting in 2011.
DeSanctis holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He is married to Deneen; a Fairfield based Speech-Language Pathologist, and they are the proud parents of three young children.
