First Chance to See Solarize Connecticut Program in Action

ANNAPOLIS JUNCTION, Md. (Nov. 6, 2012) – Astrum Solar, the largest full-service residential solar provider headquartered in the eastern United States, is offering Fairfield residents their first opportunity to see the recently launched Solarize Connecticut program in action during an installation and open house taking place Saturday, November 10th.

The 5.28 kW system will be installed at the Fairfield home of Larry and Sharon Kaley. Residents are invited to come to the install and open house beginning at 1:00 p.m. The system, once operational, will offset 100 percent of the home’s electricity and will virtually eliminate the couple’s $1,450 annual electric bill, marking a savings of $120 each month. The environmental benefits of the system are equivalent to planting 183 trees per year. The open house will be held at 1162 Jennings Road in Fairfield. It will conclude at 3 p.m.

The Kaley’s chose the Solarize Fairfield purchase option, which had a net cost of $6,700 and a four year payback. When enough of their neighbors join them, their costs will go down to $5,600 and shorten their payback by a year.  They also could have chosen the pay as you go option, which requires $0 upfront cost.  If they had done so, their savings would have been $80 per month versus $120 per month.

“We are excited to partner with the state’s Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) to launch the Solarize Connecticut program,” said Michelle Waldgeir, Astrum Solar’s vice president of marketing. “We’re seeing enormous demand for residential solar throughout the state as more residents become aware of the significant cost savings they can achieve by transitioning from traditional energy consumers to clean energy producers.”

Solarize Connecticut, developed by CEFIA, is a pilot program designed to encourage the adoption of residential solar PV by developing a coordinated education, marketing and outreach effort, combined with a tiered pricing structure that provides increased savings to homeowners as more people in the community go solar.

“Solarize Fairfield helps people lower their electric bills for no money down,” said Bob Wall, CEFIA’s director of marketing and outreach. “Customers can also purchase the system outright at historically low prices and save even more money.”

Larry Kaley, who also serves as a clean energy ambassador in the Fairfield community as chairman of its Clean Energy task Force and the local Earth Day Committee added, “I’m excited to have the opportunity to finally purchase an affordable solar PV system, which in our case, will basically eliminate our electric bill and also allows a small but positive step to be taken to clean up Fairfield’s air, which is in non-compliance with the Clean Air Act. The more who sign on, the cleaner our air becomes, and the cheaper the cost of purchasing the system becomes.”
