About Kristen:
Kristen Graves is a hippie folk/pop singer & songwriter embarking on her fifth national summer tour with a brand new CD in hand. Her voice will grab your attention, her lyrics will stick to you, and her melodies will keep you humming as you walk out the door. Kristen’s songs pack a serious emotional punch as her song topics range between real-life experience in her humanitarian work, taking on our government, and reminding people to be kind to one another. This summer’s tour will have a five-week gap, which she’ll use to teach a free guitar camp on the Cheyenne River Reservation for Lakota children in South Dakota. Her most recent studio release (in addition to 4 full-length albums, 1 EP, and 1 Christmas album) is a five song EP, entitled, ‘Slow Down’. For more information please visit: www.kristengraves.com.
Originally from Green Bay, WI, Kristen began Classical piano lessons (and learned to throw a football!) at age 6, studying and developing her talent until she began to write her own music at 18. Picking up the guitar during college, Kristen wrote, recorded and produced two albums, launching a solo career by the time she graduated in 2004. (From St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.) At that same time, Kristen began volunteering and traveling to an orphanage in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she met fellow volunteer, Bryan Nurnberger. Soon after, Bryan founded Simply Smiles (www.simplysmiles.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing bright futures for impoverished children. The couple has been working together combining arts and philanthropy ever since.
Kristen has booked, promoted and put on four national tours, works often with well-known NYC producer, Chris Cubeta, and has shared the stage with incredible folk artists and landmark troubadours of our time. Though Kristen’s personality comes through in her songwriting and recordings, you need to hear her live to truly get to know her. This year’s tour and South Dakota guitar camp (funded by sales from her Christmas CD) prove that she is not quite ready to take her own advice and, ‘Slow Down’. With stories from the road, camp, and just life in general, you won’t want to miss the show!
‘There’s always room for Kristen on Better CT! There are very few people that come on stage with just a guitar and sing, no back-up, no nothing, just an amazing voice; Kristen Graves is that gifted performer.” – Scot Haney, Host of Better Connecticut
