Montage Initiative, with the collaboration of Fairfield University and the Guild for Service Foundation is pleased to announce the screening of the movie White Rainbow to shed light on a serious international issue of social justice. This event is for your education and awareness - it is free and open to the community. The event will take place on the Fairfield University campus Thursday March 7th at 6pm.
This movie is based on the life of social activist, writer, and scholar, Dr. Giri. White Rainbown discusses a difficult topic and shows the plight of widows in India as they are abandoned by their families to survive on their own on the streets. Stigmatized and maligned by Indian society, they flock to the holy city of Vrindavan, known as the "City of Widows," in order to find "Moksha" - Salvation. This movie show the journey of four courageous women as they dare to challenge the injustices against women in their society.
The movie screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Mohini Giri herself, Julie Mughal, and Sreerupa Chaudhary. Dr. Giri is the founder of the Guild for Service foundation, a non-profit organization working to educate and empower women in India. Julie Mughal is an Assistant Director of the Fairfield University Center for Faith and Public Life. Ms. Chaudhary is a trustee of the Guild for Service Foundation.
