1. Hurricane Sandy has opened up a number of opportunities for teardowns near the beach. What changes, if any, to zoning regulations would you recommend to maintain the character of the beach? The special Beach District (mostly Fairfield Beach Rd.) currently restricts most subdivision, and retains the character of that neighborhood as it exists now. For the area between downtown and the beach, I applaud the increased FEMA first floor height requirements, and would favor further restrictions on height and coverage to maintain the character of this area.

2. What steps could be taken to meet the town’s obligations for affordable housing stock under state statute? I see the mandate for affordable housing as an opportunity to make Fairfield available to a broader range of residents.. The housing types typically offered under the mandate – multifamily structures - provide the kind of housing attractive to empty-nesters, young Fairfielders just starting careers, and municipal employees who might not be able to otherwise live in the community where they work.
