Description of Organizations: Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC) is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a non-profit ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing. Founded in 1985, Habitat CFC is an independent, locally run, IRS 501(c) (3) organization, headquartered in Bridgeport and working throughout Coastal Fairfield County to build safe, energy-efficient and affordable homes for qualified, low-income families.

Habitat CFC activities in the local area include more than just building homes for deserving families. It also includes: managing the construction, providing mortgage banking services for homeowners, performing real estate site selections, building community partnerships, fundraising, and selecting and supporting qualified families with social services. In 25 years, Habitat CFC built more than 160 homes and refurbished 10 others for nearly 700 families living throughout the Coastal Fairfield County region.

Youth United is a program of Habitat for Humanity CFC for young people ages 5-25. For those under 16, work is limited topainting, landscaping and fundraising; members 16 years and older also can work on construction sites. Like its adult Habitat counterpart, Youth United members represent a diverse population from more than 16 towns/schools and include the children of homeowners.
