SENIOR CENTER TO HOST EVENING PROGRAMS SEPTEMBER 11TH

Fairfield, CT-August 26, 2013 - Ms. Terry Giegengack, Director of Human and Social Services announced today that on Wednesday, September 11, 2013, the Fairfield Senior Center will hold its first Fall 2013 evening program. Giegengack said: “This is the first of five planned Wednesday Night Out fall programs. Our local market research showed us that younger seniors would like evening or weekend programs, so our fall evening series was designed to entice seniors to come to the Senior Center.”

 The September evenings start on Wednesday, September 11th from 5-8 p.m.   The Senior Center welcomes people age 50 years plus to attend. 

New this fall, the Senior Center has asked the local business community to sponsor refreshments for the Wednesday Nights Out programs.  We are pleased to have Fairview of Fairfield sponsor the September 11th Night Out.  Fairview of Fairfield is a Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, located at 930 Mill Hill Terrace in Southport. Fairview’s Director of Admissions, Deborah Delfranco will be here to answer any questions people may have about the facility. In order to pay the instructors, the center must charge nominal fees to be open and provide these evening programs.  On September 11th, Premium coffee and dessert will be served in our dining hall from 5 – 7 P.M.  A $3.00 donation to the Senior Center will be asked.

 Pickleball will be played in the gym from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. at no charge.

 A class in Meditation by Fran Palumbo of Fairfield will take place if at least 12 people pre-register for the class.  The Meditation class will cost $10.00 and it will run from

6:30 – 7:30 P.M. 

Yoga for Everybody will hold a one hour class from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.  A minimum of 6 people pre-registered is needed to hold the class and the fee is $10.00.  Participants should bring their own mat.

 Arthur N. Gottlieb, known locally as an excellent lecturer and teacher, will present a talk on the Brooklyn Bridge – An Architectural Treasure, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  Mr. Gottlieb was a professional curator of naval history and the Technical Director of Exhibits at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City.  From 1989 through 1997, Mr. Gottlieb coordinated with all the branches of the Armed Services and National Guard towards the preservation of historic ships, aircraft and armor from around the world, and has facilitated the recovery of scores of artifacts from warships slated for demolition from reserve fleets.  The lecture will take place in our new multi-media room with a 60” Blu Ray HD TV with Internet Access and surround sound speakers.  Mr. Gottlieb is an Auxiliary Officer of the United States Coast Guard currently serving as Commander of Flotilla 7 – 2, Division 1 (Southern Region), Sector Long Island South North.  Mr. Gottlieb is also an avid lover of architecture and this talk is one of a series he has prepared on Architectural Treasures.  The cost for Mr. Gottlieb’s lecture will be

Save the date for the next Wednesday Night Out which will be held Wednesday, September 25th from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.  Rev. Charles H. Allen, S.J., Special Assistant to the President of Fairfield University, University Chaplain and Catholic Chaplain to the Town of Fairfield Emergency Services, will give a talk from 6:00 P.M. to 7 P.M. on his travels in Italy.
