HCC Summer Sessions Offer Affordability, Flexibility

News Release May 7, 2013 BRIDGEPORT – Housatonic Community College this summer is offering a selection of courses that add up to affordability and flexibility. Students can choose courses offered in three summer sessions starting June 3, as well as online courses that students can take 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Session I, an eight-week session, runs June 3– July 25; Sessions II and III, five-week sessions, run June 3 –July 5 and July 8 – August 9, respectively. “This summer, HCC will offer something for everyone,” said HCC spokesman Anson Smith. “Our three-session structure gives students the flexibility to study at their own pace, to tailor their course load to their individual goals, and still take that much needed summer vacation.” Credit courses are offered in areas such as art, business, biology, nutrition, communications, computer science, criminal justice, early childhood education, economics, English, English as a Second Language, geography, history, Italian, mathematics, music, philosophy, physical science, physics, psychology, sociology, and Spanish. In addition, a wide variety of non-credit courses will be offered as well. Sessions II and III, the five-week sessions, are appropriate for people who want to accomplish as much as they can in a short period, Smith said. “Session I, the eight-week session, is tailor-made for working students who are trying to balance education with a full-time job and/or family responsibilities,” Smith said. All three sessions are appropriate for HCC students enrolled in associate degree or certificate programs, as well as students at other colleges and universities who are looking for quality transfer credits at an affordable cost. While HCC’s credits transfer easily, students of other colleges are encouraged to clear their summer course plans with their college registrar or academic advisor.
