ILLUSTRATOR/AUTHOR VICTORIA VEBELL TO SPEAK AT HCC 4/28

Bridgeport, CT …The Art Department of Housatonic Community College in collaboration with the Housatonic Museum of Art completes its artist lecture series for the semester with freelance illustrator, Victoria Vebell, who will speak in Room #514, the Event Center of Beacon Hall, 900 Lafayette Blvd, Bridgeport, CT on Monday, April 28, 2014, 5 – 7 pm, free and open to the public.  Vebell will present images of her commercial art which includes advertising, publishing and editorial, while focusing on her digital paperback cover art. Victoria Vebell has been a freelance illustrator and multi-talented commercial artist since 1974. Her work has transitioned from traditional media to digital.  Vebell now specializes in digital paperback cover art, and a recent design was on the New York Times Best Seller’s list.  She is the daughter of fellow illustrator, Ed Vebell, who was distinguished with the honor of being the only artist to cover the Nuremberg War Trials for Stars and Stripes in WWII.  His illustrations of those trials now hang in the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.  Vebell worked with her father for three years on one of the largest commissions awarded from the Postal Commemorative Society to document the history of the United States.  She earned her MFA from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in Digital Illustration and her BFA from Philadelphia College of Art in Illustration.  Vebell is classically trained in drawing, painting and human anatomy and is the author and illustrator of the best-selling textbook Exploring the Basics of Drawing, Cengage Learning, 2004. The 2nd edition will be published later on this year. Vebell teaches at Pratt Institute in New York and Naugatuck Valley Community College.
