CT DMV Reminds Motorists to Remove Snow, Ice From Vehicles

Should snow or ice fall from your vehicle while driving and cause property damage and/or personal injury, you could face up to a $1,000 fine, according to the DMV's website.

As the massive cleanup from Winter Storm Nemo continues, the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles reminds residents that as per state law they are responsible for removing snow from their vehicles — including the roof — before traveling on state roadways, or face a possible $75 fine.

Should snow or ice fall from your vehicle while driving and cause property damage and/or personal injury, you could face up to a $1,000 fine, according to the DMV's website.

“All drivers should take an extra few minutes to remove most of the snow and ice so it does not endanger themselves or others,” DMV Commissioner Melody A. Currey said. “That will be time well spent to avoid needless hazards on the roadways."

Operators of commercial vehicles will be required to remove snow and ice as per a new law scheduled to go into effect later this year.
