Fairfield Kids Sell Lemonade to Fight Little-Known Disease

The Brodericks' goal was to raise $100 for the Lewy Body Dementia Association -- they raised $387 in three hours.

A Fairfield family is doing its part to combat Lewy Body Dementia, a little-known disease similar to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

The Broderick children held a lemonade stand earlier this month to raise money for the Lewy Body Dementia Association in honor of their grandmother, who died from Lewy Body Dementia in March.

The Brodericks had a goal of $100 -- they ended up making $387 during their Saturday afternoon operation.

"We were very touched by the donations people had given," Joanne Broderick said.

The kids -- Hayley, 5, and Hunter, 4 -- "were so excited to have their first lemonade stand and to have it be such a success," Broderick said. The family built and decorated the stand.

Broderick said she wanted to share the story to not only spread awareness about Lewy Body Dementia in Fairfield, but to let readers know of the generosity of friends and strangers in town.

The Brodericks plan to have another lemonade stand in October, which is Lewy Body Dementia Awareness month
