Fairfield Sidewalk Sales Event This Saturday

More than 75 vendors are expected to participate in the downtown portion of this year's event, setting up stands along the Post Road from the Heritage Square Shopping Center to the Promenade at the Brick Walk.

Admission to the event, which is being co-sponsored by the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, is free.

First Selectman Mike Tetreau wishes to remind the public that the Fairfield Sidewalk Sales event will take place this coming Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine.  Select merchants will offer advance sales of discount merchandise beginning on Thursday, July 24th.

Over 75 vendors are expected to participate in the downtown portion of this year’s event, setting up stands and offering a variety of merchandise for sales along the Post Road from the Heritage Square Shopping Center to the Promenade at the Brick Walk.  Admission to the event, which is being co-sponsored by the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, is free.

Additionally, merchants in Southport Village are also planning to take part in conjunction with the Pequot Library’s 54th Annual Summer Book Sale --- the “Best Book Sale in New England”—which runs from Friday, July 25th through Tuesday, July 29th.

Sherman Green will feature activities for children and families, including an inflatable bouncy house, face painting by “Put on a Happy Face” and balloon artistry by Robbie’s Pack.  Activities will also include a visit by “BB”, the Bluefish Mascot, and “McGruff”, the Crime Dog.  Members of the Fairfield Teen Theatre Company will also be presenting a preview of their upcoming stage production of “Shrek, the Musical.”

This year’s event will feature live musical entertainment at multiple venues scattered throughout the downtown.  Musicians will be playing at various times from 11 am to 3 pm at venues set up at the Brick Walk, at Sherman Green, in front of the Community Theater, and near the Fairfield University Bookstore.  

Take a break from shopping and enjoy lunch at one of several participating restaurants downtown including Centro’s, Old Post Tavern, T & C Steakhouse and Baro New World Cantina.  The Italian Kitchen will be offering tastings starting at just $3.75, as well as a dinner for 4 for $37.50. 

The Town is also using state-of-the-art technology to help promote this great community event.  BizzBuzzTV, one of the sponsors of the Sidewalk Sale will be featuring a Smart Phone App that shoppers can download for free, which will allow them to watch short videos from participating merchants talking about the great deals and specials that they are offering for the sale.  

First Selectman Tetreau said, “I encourage members of our community to come be part of this fun-filled event, which includes live musical entertainment at various venues within the downtown, special menu offerings at our many fine participating restaurants, and activities for children and families.”

Balaz, Executive Director of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, said, “The annual Fairfield Sidewalk Sale has become an anticipated event both by residents and business owners.  It is a great way to support local Fairfield shops, while customers get great discounts and enjoy refreshments and food from local eateries.”
