Fairfield Snowstorm Central: Openings, Closings, Updates

Schools are closed for the second straight day, but the library is planning on opening at 11 a.m.

Update as of 7:40 a.m. on Feb. 14:

According to unofficial snow totals, Fairfield takes the title as the town with the most snow in the state. The National Weather Service reports that Fairfield had 14 inches as of 1 p.m. yesterday — just edging out Milford with 13.5 inches.

Update as of 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 14:

Fairfield Public Library will be opening at 11 a.m. today, Town Hall offices have a two-hour delayed opening, and schools are closed.

Update as of 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 14:

The state Department of Transportation is reporting that there have been five tractor trailer accidents on Connecticut's highways so far this morning. One, on Interstate 95 north in Westport, has two lanes closed.

More info on those accidents here.

Update as of 11 a.m. on Feb. 13:

First Selectman Michael Tetreau is asking beach residents to take precautions as flooding is expected with tonight's high tide.

High tide will hit at 10:35 p.m.

There is also a full moon, which always leads to higher than normal tides.

Our original report follows:

With snow falling at a pace of about 2 to 4 inches per hour on Thursday, most people are weathering the storm in the comforts of home.

And they have good reason to, as schools are closed, and so are the libraries and Town Hall. Travel on local roads has been minimal so far today and no accidents have been reported, according to Fairfield Police Sgt. Suzanne Lussier.

But not everything is closed, right? If you're brave enough to venture out — and we're not encouraging anyone does! — but, if you are, let everyone know what is open around town in the comments on this article.
