To the Editor,
More must be done to keep our children safe. I am part of the grassroots, bi-partisan organization MARCH FOR CHANGE that is providing a platform for people to rally in Hartford on Feb. 14 demanding safer gun laws in the state of Connecticut.
Since the Newtown tragedy there has been a groundswell of support for this movement. That said, as an organization we need support in our Fairfield County community in order to ensure the critical mass that will enable change in the state house.
We are not looking to ban guns, we are simply looking to enact laws that will make gun ownership in Fairfield County safer for our children. The analogy being made to our group is that of the MADD model; it took a vocal group of angry and energized moms, demanding change in the drinking/driving laws to get the concept of a "designated driver" into the vernacular.
We believe we can change the conversation, change the culture, change the laws. I believe this is our opportunity to truly make a difference for our children’s future.
More information is available on the MARCH FOR CHANGE website: www.marchforchange.org.
Yours sincerely,
Cynthia Dartley
