Rainy Morning Causes Flooding in Fairfield

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for coastal Fairfield County as rain continues to pour Monday.

Pockets of the Post Road were flooded, as were Chambers Street, Center Street in Southport, and under bridge on Round Hill Road.

"Those are the traditional viaducts that back up for a short time," Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said.

The intersection of Post Road and Pease Avenue in Southport was "impassable" for a short time this morning, Lyddy said, but it has since cleared.

Rain is expected to continue throughout the day, and there's a chance that thunderstorms could move into the area.

The National Weather Service forecasts another quarter to a half inch of rain to fall in Fairfield.

Conditions are expected to start to dry out after 9 p.m. Expect sunny skies Tuesday with temperatures reaching 73 degrees.
