Remember When, Fairfield: Miro's Farm Stand

In the spirit of #ThrowbackThursday, Patch continues its weekly feature in which we celebrate the faces and places of Fairfield from back in the day.

After hopping across a stream, weaving through skunk cabbage and walking for what seemed like miles, my friend and I stumbled upon something amazing.

There were piles of bright orange pumpkins, buckets bursting with fresh fruits and vegetables, and cars buzzing by on a busy road beyond that. To us little guys — we couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 — our adventure in the backyard woods had turned up something super cool. But we knew we had gone too far from home, so we quickly retreated back to our yards on Farist Road.

Turns out that something super cool was Miro's Farm Stand.

As we got older, we'd swing into the little shopping center where Miro's stood to grab pizza slices from Saroni and candy and drinks at Lee's News Stand.

Miro's and the other stores are now just a memory. An Italian restaurant and bank have laid down roots at the location, on Black Rock Turnpike across from the intersection with Katonah Drive.

The Fairfield Museum & History Center has records of Miro Farms dating back to at least 1965. I tried to find out when it closed, but my research hasn't yielded anything concrete.

That's where you come in, my fellow Fairfielders: What do you remember about Miro Farms?
