Sea of Motorcyclists Begin 9/11 Ride in Norwalk

CT United Ride's 11th annual tribute to 9/11 first responders, and to those who continue to put their lives on the line, again began with thousands of motorcyclists starting their ride on Sunday in Norwalk.

A sea of rumbling metal formed in the Norden Place parking lot Sunday morning as thousands of motorcyclists again gathered in Norwalk to start commemorating the heroes of September 11, past and present.

After a brief ceremony, the sea turned into a river as men and women on their bikes rolled through East Norwalk, and then Westport, Wilton, Redding, Bethel, Newtown, Monroe, Trumbull and Bridgeport, where the day's mass ride ended.

The riders commemorated "those who gave their lives, and those who continue to put their lives on the line each day as a result of the tragedies occurring on 9/11," as the CT United Ride website says. They also raised money for two area chapters of the United Way and for emergency relief funds helping families of  Connecticut police officers and firefighters.
