Governor's Horse Guard, Marching Bands, School and Community Groups All Head to Lower Wharf for Blessing of the Fleet

Southport's annual street parade and Blessing of the Fleet drew a crowd to the town's picturesque waterfront neighborhood on Saturday.

The 2nd Company Governor's Horse Guard, marching bands, emergency responders, Eagle Hill School students, town dignataries and residents all marched from Trinity Episcopal Church, along Pequot Avenue, Main Street and Harbor Road to the Lower Wharf, a half-acre town-owned property where area clergy blessed boats as they passed by toward the mouth of Southport Harbor.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut; U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-4; state Sen. John McKinney, R-Fairfield; state Reps. Kim Fawcett, Tony Hwang and Brenda Kupchick; First Selectman Michael Tetreau; Police Chief Gary MacNamara; and Fire Chief Richard Felner were among dignataries in attendance.
