Tips from Zane's Cycles to Get Your Bike Ready to Ride

It's prime biking time in Fairfield, given the recent bout of beautiful weather and the soon-to-be finished Mill Plain Road bike route project.

For those who have yet to take their bicycle out for a spin, Sam Connor of Zane's Cycles (formerly Trek Bicycle Store) has some advice to make sure your bike is in working order.

You'll need to conduct a comprehensive tune-up to make sure every aspect of the bike is as tight as it should be, Connor said.

The three most important functions to check are:

- Tire and tube quality: You don't want to run the risk of blowing a flat tire, so make sure those tires are pumped;
- The wheels: Your bike's wheels need to be "true," Connor said - that means no wobbling;
- The brakes: Make sure they work and your comfortable with them.

If you'd like a professional opinion on the state of your bike, bring it by Zane's in the Brick Walk promenade. They perform a range of tune-ups, from a simple cleanup to a more in-depth version.
