Jennings Beach Draws Good-Sized Crowd in Mid-Afternoon

The first day of summer on Tuesday didn't disappoint, with sunny skies and a temperature high enough to send Fairfield and out-of-town residents to the beach.

Jennings Beach, one of six beaches in town, had a nice-sized crowd by mid-afternoon, and Catherine Doenges, the town's assistant waterfront director, said crowds have been pretty good at town beaches since beach season opened Memorial Day weekend. She said Tuesday was the second day lifeguards were working at town beaches full-time. Before that, lifeguards only worked on weekends, Doenges said.

As a bit of trivia, Doenges said South Pine Creek Beach was the smallest public beach in the state.
