Book Launch Party and Book Reading at Fairfield Public Library

The Fairfield Public Library will be hosting Linda Howard Urbach as she launches her new book, Madame Bovary’s Daughter (Random House) on Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.  The book launch will be in the Memorial Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.

Whatever happened to the only daughter of the scandalous Madame Bovary, literature’s greatest adulteress and worst mother?  Picking up after the shattering end of Gustave Flaubert’s classic novel, this beguiling novel answers the question:  how does a daughter survive the legacy of a mother’s sinful past?  The historical novel follows Berthe Bovary as she progresses from living with her grandmother on an impoverished farm to becoming a model for famed painter Jean-Francois Millet and later an apprentice to renowned designer Charles Frederick Worth.  Booklist’s Margaret Flanagan’s review says, “A lavishly textured sequel to a timeless literary masterpiece.”

Linda led a very successful Momoirs series at the Library last year.  Town Librarian, Karen Ronald said, “It is a pleasure to celebrate this accomplishment with such a vibrant and talented author as Linda.  I have worked with Linda for over a decade now.  Whether she is leading a writers’ workshop, presenting at our writers conference or researching for her next book she is an inspiration and delight to know and celebrate.  Please join us on Tuesday evening.”

E. Katherine Kerr will be reading excerpts of the book that evening.  Ms. Kerr is an actress, writer, teacher, director, seminar leader and coach. She is known for portraying multiple roles on the stage as well. She won an Obie Award, a Villager citation and a Drama Desk Nomination for her portrayals of three characters in Cloud Nine. A second Drama Desk Nomination followed for her portrayals of the women in Christopher Durang's Laughing Wild. She has taught acting at NYU, Playwright’s Horizons Theatre School, Sarah Lawrence and privately.  Leading roles on Broadway include Passion, No Place To Be Somebody and Night Watch.
