Everett Raymond Kinstler: From Pulps to Portraits

Everett Raymond Kinstler: From Pulps to Portraits (June 14 - September 28, 2012)

Everett Raymond Kinstler is best known for his portraits of such notable figures as President Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, musicians Tony Bennett, Dave Brubeck and Benny Goodman, actors Katherine Hepburn, Paul Newman, Christopher Plummer and author Tom Wolfe. Before he began focusing on portraiture, however, Kinstler enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator and painter of genre scenes. This exhibition, a reduced version of the Norman Rockwell Museum's show of this same name documents the artist's transition from the illustration field, through early examples of book covers, magazine illustrations, and comic book pages, created in a variety of mediums. A collection of Kinstler's current projects reveal the continued influence of illustration and motion pictures on the artist's canvas.
