Fountains of Wayne

Most well-known for the song “Stacy’s Mom,” a song that
really had it going on, the band’s lead singer and songwriter, Adam Schlesinger
is also responsible for the catchy-as-can-be title song for That Thing You Do,
starring Tom Hanks. Although Fountains of Wayne didn't enjoy mainstream
attention until the release of "Stacy's Mom" in 2003, the band had already
established itself as one of America's strongest power pop acts.

The
group also recorded the theme song for the Comedy Central show Crank Yankers,
and wrote songs for, and appeared as animated characters in, the VH1 cartoon
series Hey Joel with columnist Joel Stein. The show aired briefly on VH1 in
2003, but was later picked up by Teletoon in Canada. They would perform original
songs while the action was taking place, or moments before it, and the theme
song. Most recently, following a hiatus, the band has released Sky Full of
Holes, a finely crafted, maturer version of the same pop punk vibe. The New York
Times says, “Since 1996 they have been writing finely observed, neatly rhymed
character studies set to sleekly produced pop-rock.”
