Journeys Juried Exhibition

The Bruce S. Kershner Gallery and the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library invite the public to view its JOURNEYS Juried Exhibition. The exhibition is part of the Fairfield Public Library’s One Book/One Town program. The work in the exhibition were selected by juror, Thomas Mezzanotte, Fairfield’s 2010 Artist of the Year. The selected works are on view in the Bruce S. Kershner Gallery from Feb. 27 to April 6, 2012 during library hours.

The opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Saturday, March 3rd from 4-6pm. Food will be provided by Bacchus restaurant in South Norwalk.

JOURNEYS Juried Exhibition is inspired by the Fairfield Public Library’s One Book/One Town selection, “The Watch That Ends the Night: Voices from the Titanic”, by Allan Wolf. In the fictional book, readers experience the journey on the Titanic from the perspective of twenty-four voices. As quoted by Ursula K. Le Guin, “It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end.”  But while some journeys are “taken” such as a trip to another place, others are a process of development leading to some type of transformation. The Bruce S. Kershner Gallery encourages artists to visually represent a journey that they have experienced whether it is actual, metaphorical, or spiritual.

The juror for the exhibition, Thomas Mezzanotte, has been exploring the potentials of the photographic medium for over thirty years. He attended the University of Bridgeport where he became the director of the Carlson Gallery in the late eighties. As a Master Teaching Artist for the Connecticut Office of the Arts, Mezzanotte teaches the science of seeing through the use of photography throughout schools in Connecticut. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country. For more information about the juror visit: www.thomasmezzanotte.com.

The Bruce S. Kershner Gallery is located inside the Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield.

The gallery is run by a volunteer group of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library.  It is the mission of the gallery to present a wide variety of art to inspire the community toward creative and intellectual growth. The gallery believes that Art is central to the expression and nurturing of the human spirit. For more information visit www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org.
