"Leaving Van Gogh" author presentation

Final Pequot Library “Meet the Author”
Presentation of the Season
Carol Wallace’s Leaving Van Gogh

Sunday, April 17 4:00 p.m.

A former Southport resident (she grew up on Pequot Avenue and has fond recollections of using the Library as a youngster), Carol Wallace returns to town on April 17 to talk about her latest book and first historical novel, Leaving Van Gogh. This is an extraordinary opportunity to meet the author before the publication of the book, and to purchase copies before the official release date of April 19.

Leaving Van Gogh is the story of the last days of the artist’s life, the decline of his mental health, and his suicide, told from the perspective of his friend and doctor. It has been described as "A rich, meticulously researched novel that probes the passion of genius, and the demands of love and friendship.”

Wallace is looking forward to her return to Southport and Pequot Library. “When I was growing up in Southport I used to go to programs at Pequot Library,” she recalls. “It's a big thrill to think that I will be able to introduce this book to the public at the Library. I believe the last time I performed there I was playing the recorder in a madrigal group in my senior year of high school. I'm also pretty glad I'm not repeating that performance!”

The Reviews are glowing: "Carol Wallace’s new novel is a wonderfully rich exploration of the deep interconnectedness of art and madness, friendship and therapy, hope and despair. Leaving Van Gogh is a remarkable imaginative achievement and an utterly compelling read." (Robert Olen Butler, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain)

Please join us in the Auditorium on Sunday, April 17 for the program and feel free to forward this eFlyer to a friend who might be interested. A reception will follow in the Main Reading Room.
