Shipbuilding 101 at the Fairfield Libraries

In celebration of One Book One Town month, we are immersing ourselves in all things Titanic.  At Shipbuilding 101, children will hear the story TitaniCat by Marty Crisp, learn a song about the Titanic, and then build a small replica of the ship, complete with smoke stacks and waves crashing against the sides.

Shipbuilding 101 will take place at both town libraries, for slightly different age groups.  On Friday, March 2, 4:15-5 pm at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, the program is for kindergarten-first graders.  On Thursday, March 8 from 2-2:45 pm at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road, the program is for 4 and 5 year olds.

This program is part of the Library’s 2012 One Book One Town Celebration of The Watch That Ends the Night:  Voices from the Titanic.  There are a variety of additional programs for children including Come Aboard! for grades 2-4; Run the Titanic for tweens grades 4-7; an oral presentation by Lauren Tarshis who wrote the young reader’s  book, I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic, 1912, for ages 8-13; and a presentation by Mystic Aquarium at the Pequot Library about the sinking of the Titanic.
