St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will once again be the host for an afternoon of wonderful music. On Sunday, June 3rd at 4:00 p.m., the church’s parish hall will reverberate with the dulcet tones of soprano Virginia Barney. She will be singing arias by composers Bizet, Mozart and Wolf.
Barney, one of the youngest members of Seagle Music Colony’s Young Artist Program in upstate New York, is a second year voice major at Boston University studying with Jerrold Pope. She has been a finalist in numerous musical competitions, including the Hugo Kauder International Music Competition, the Verdi Opera Theatre of Michigan’s Arias Vocal Competition, and the national Classical Singer Competition. This summer, Ms. Barney returns to the Seagle Music Colony to sing the role of Amy in Mark Adamo’s Little Women and to cover the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Ms. Barney has trained and performed roles with the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Interlochen Arts Camp the New York Opera Theatre, and most recently the Boston University Opera in their production of Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. Earlier this year she appeared with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra as the soprano soloist in Bach’s G Major Mass, as a result of winning their Collegiate Vocal Competition.

She is very excited to return home to give a recital for her friends and family.
The musical event will raise funds for Trinity In Motion, a collaborative effort between St. Paul’s Church, Trinity Church in Southport, and St. Timothy’s to promote awareness of the conditions still plaguing Haiti and to build financial support for the Holy Trinity School in Port-au-Prince.
In June 2008, a few select parishioners from St. Paul’s Church went to Haiti and visited the Holy Trinity School. They saw the good work being done there to give children a strong education. With the country’s high rate of illiteracy and low education levels, these children thrive, survive and excel.
St. Paul’s wanted to support that ambition even more and that’s when Trinity In Motion was born. They reached out to Trinity and St. Timothy’s. Since that time, the three churches have collectively raised over $70,000.
