The Classical Symphony, Part II (A Friends of Music at Pequot Library Concert)
The Sebastian Players are now familiar to the Friends of Music. Their concert in April explored the origins of the Classical symphony and featured a concerto for clarinet. This season Sebastian brings a new exploration of the Classical symphony, this time with Mozart’s clarinet concerto and one of his finest symphonies. These works will be re-discovered in our concert as they will be played on the instruments used in Haydn’s and Mozart’s orchestras. The ensemble will include pairs of flutes, oboes, bassoons and natural horns plus strings and harpsichord.
The Program: Arne: Symphony No. 1 in C major; M Haydn: Symphony in D minor P 30; Mozart: Concerto for Clarinet & Orchestra in A major, K 581; CPE Bach: Symphony in E minor Wq 178; Mozart: Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K 183
