The proceeds from this Motown and Soul concert at the Fairfield Theater Company benefits those battling poverty in Fairfield County.

Looking for something fun to do Thursday night? How about something fun that also benefits less fortunate citizens in Fairfield County?

"One Night Band," a one-night-only Motown concert produced by musical group Band Together CT and volunteer organization Near & Fair Aid, is happening at the Fairfield Theatre Company (FTC) at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (doors open at 6:30 p.m.)

The show benefits the Fairfield-based Near & Far Aid, an all-volunteer organization that provides grants and programs to help eliminate “causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield,” according to a release issued by the group.

Co-Chair Lisa Zelson, who lives in Southport, said and Near & Far Aid are "perfect partners" for this event.

"Band Together is a unique organization. By day the founders -- Jerry Vigorito [of Fairfield] and Ron Fried -- have full-time jobs as, respectively, a mortgage broker and an institutional asset manager," Zelson said.

"By night they have another full-time job: producing drop-dead-fabulous concerts for a variety of charities," she added. "They bring together top local musical talent -- a different group for each concert. The one thing they have in common is their desire to help raise money for good causes."

The concert is produced entirely by volunteers; 95 cents of every dollar raised "goes to those who need it most," said Near & Far Aid Co-Chair Laurie Lister of Westport. "These funds make an enormous difference in peoples' lives."
