Why Go: The is held over Mother’s Day weekend every year and offers free admission and a range of entertainment featuring local history and culture. The Festival has many family-friendly events and activities -- from the Dogwood Dash to music programs, an art show and informative tours of historic places around Greenfield Hill.

Festival hours: Friday, May 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 8, noon to 5 p.m.

Where/When: Riverfield Elementary School, 1625 Mill Plain Rd.

May 6, 6 to 9 p.m. & May 7, 3 to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy good, old-fashioned family fun during the Riverfield Elementary School spring carnival this weekend.  Rides and games for all ages, plus Beachside Deli and Pizza will provide ballpark favorites such as pizza, hot dogs, burgers, sausage & peppers, chicken cutlets and more.

Pricing: Entrance is free.

 

Where/When: Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Ave., Bridgeport

May 7, 12 to 3 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy a day of dinosaurs at the zoo. Staff from Dinosaur State Park, The Dinosaur Place and Peabody Museum will bring information and artifacts on these pre historic creatures. Meet Dilly the Dinosaur and make a craft!

Pricing: Adult admission is $11; children (ages 3 -11), $9; and senior admission (62 & older) is $9. Children under 3 are free.

 

Where/When: Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., Southport

May 7, 4 to 7 p.m.

Why Go: Derby Day at the Pequot Library will include Kentucky fare, live race coverage, big ole hats and festive attire. Prizes will be awarded for Best Hat and Best Tailgate, plus pick your favorite horse to win in the 50/50 raffle. Kentucky fare by The Shack Hometown Grill, in Fairfield. The event will be held rain or shine.

Pricing: Individual tickets are $60 per person. Tickets are required and tailgating spots are available for $300, which includes four tickets.

Where/When: Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Ave., Norwalk

May 7, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Fairfield County Children’s Choir will wrap up its 16th season next month with a springy, swingy “All that Jazz” performance  on Saturday, May 7. This concert, which will be held at the Norwalk Concert Hall, will feature classic jazz selections including authentic vocal jazz improvisations.
