Signs of Spring Blooming Around Us: Fairfield Bids Farewell to a Long Winter

We set the clocks forward this weekend (Sunday at 2 a.m. to be exact), which means we can look forward to longer days of sunshine and light - and finally enjoy some warm weather in the weeks ahead.

We’ve weathered three months of winter (but what has actually felt like at least six), and in just another week, spring will have finally sprung. Over the past few weeks, many of us have been bracing for another possible snowstorm, but it looks like we could be in the clear (did I just jinx us?)

We set the clocks forward this weekend (Sunday at 2 a.m. to be exact), which means we can look forward to longer days of sunshine and light, and finally enjoy some warm weather in the weeks ahead. The flowers and trees will soon be blooming, beaches will open for the season and we can enjoy many outdoor fairs and carnivals. Another rite of passage to get excited about: Many of Fairfield's restaurants will start opening up their patios for al fresco dining.

“I can’t wait for the weather to warm up enough that restaurants open their patios,” Stef Rubino told About Town. “Eating outside is such a luxury after a long winter.”

Memorial Day Parade, May 30

The line of march will be East from South Pine Creek Road along Post Road to the Library; south along Old Post Road; East along Old Post Road passing the Town Green and continuing beyond South Benson Road.

Helene Daly told About Town her favorite town event is the annual Memorial Day parade and ceremonies. And who doesn’t love a little beach time on a clear, warm day?

“My all time favorite event in Fairfield is the Memorial Day Parade. It is truly one of the only days when it seems like the whole town stops working and comes together to watch our quintessential New England parade. Afterwards, everyone celebrates with family and friends. It’s a great day. And of course, the beach; there’s nothing like it when the weather gets warm.”
