Poinsettia

Poinsettias are one of the most recognizable Christmas flowers. Their flower petals are actually the upper leaves, or bracts, of the poinsettia plant. They are native to Central America and Mexico, where they are called Noche de Buenas. While red poinsettias are the most common types found during the Christmas season, poinsettias also come in shades of white, cream, pink and peach. Many people buy them in potted arrangements, and florists place their bract stems in large floral bouquets and centerpieces. Potted poinsettias are usually inexpensive, and many silk versions are also available.
